How to turn real fabric into vector in adobe illustrator

I use Adobe Illustrator to create fabric vectors for my collections technical flat. I love this technique for the flat lays. It gives a crisp, and professional finish instead of using real fabric images.

Step 1 – Create a new file in Illustrator. Then, drop your fabric image file into the blank file you just created.

Step 2 – open Image Trace by going to Windows > Image Trace.

Step 3 – Change the Mode from Black & White to Color.

Step 4 – Click the Preview box, so you can see the changes.

Step 5 – Change the Noise to either 1 or 2. I prefer around these so you don’t loose too much details in the fabric and still look like a vector.

To save, right click go to Export Selection. Choose the Export To location, and click Save Asset. Be sure to save your new fabric swatch into your desktop folder and as well in the Swatch Library.
